As some some of you may be aware, the BRP Tour is not only a fun time of fellowship for MINI owners, it is always one of the big ways that the club gives back to the community. Every year a portion of the proceeds (whatever is left after we pay expenses) is donated to a charitable organization. Typically it is one of the organizations that helps to maintain the Blue Ridge Parkway.
A couple years ago we stepped things up a bit and arranged for a volunteer activity to be held on Sunday morning. For that activity, we helped remove tree tubes from young trees at one of the overlooks (the N&W Railroad Overlook to be exact).
For the 2014 event we would like to once again contribute a little more in the form of some help. We have arranged to partner with Asheville GreenWorks to collect trash and debris along a short stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway and one of the entrance/exits in the Asheville area.
Asheville GreenWorks in a nonprofit affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. It is a volunteer-based environmental organization working to enhance the environment and quality of life for all citizens through a variety of community based projects. Thanks to Asheville GreenWorks and other organizations, Asheville has been designated as a Tree City USA community for 34 years.
For the volunteer event, Asheville GreenWorks will supply participants with bright green vests, gloves and trash bags. They have asked us to provide the number of participants so they will know how many supplies to have ready for us. Together we can make a difference in keeping our environment clean and green so that others can enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway as much as we do (well, they’ll need a MINI to do that, but you get the idea ).
If you would like to participate in the event, please visit the thread on the THMMC web site to RSVP.
