Itinerary for 2014 is now available!

All Groups:

Yay – we finally have a draft itinerary for the BRP Tour 2014. You can access it via this link:

http://www.tarheelminis.org/2014_events/2014_brp_tour_itinerary.pdf

A couple quick notes:

  • everything is always tentative; traveling as many miles over as much time as it takes means it is virtually impossible to keep to the timetable. We are MINI drivers, not train engineers after all (though if we had a train engineer in our group that would be pretty cool).
  • for Sunday morning, we are still working on trying to organize a group photo. As we finalize those plans, we let you know. That probably means the Sunday schedule will change.
  • the Otter schedule is only a very loose estimate. You know those Otters – they hit the twisties and who knows how long it will be before they surface again.

If we have any major changes, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Thanks for your patience and we look forward to seeing you next week!

Group Meals Info

During this year’s BRP Tour, we are scheduling two meals for the entire group:

Welcome Dinner
Thursday, June 12, 2014
@ 6:30 pm
Clocktower Restaurant
27 West Beverly Street
Staunton, VA

After everyone has had a chance to enjoy their meal, we will hand out t-shirts, registration orders, swag, etc. We will probably spend a few minutes discussing the tour as well and may get folks into their groups for introductions.

Tour Celebration
Saturday, June 14, 2014
@ 7:00 pm
The Fireplace Restaurant
287 Weaverville Rd
Asheville, NC

After a couple days on the BRP and adjacent roads, the groups will reconvene at 7:00 pm at The Fireplace Restaurant for a group meal. We’ll have some door prizes to hand out, probably some raffle prizes to award, and general revelry (at least as much as the restaurant will allow).

Lunches will be coordinated by the different group leaders. We are tenatively planning for the Friday night meal to be “on your own” as this usually gives folks an opportunity to dine with new and old MINI friends in a more intimate atmosphere.

THMMC partners with Asheville GreenWorks for cleanup activity

brp_2012_volunteersAs some some of you may be aware, the BRP Tour is not only a fun time of fellowship for MINI owners, it is always one of the big ways that the club gives back to the community. Every year a portion of the proceeds (whatever is left after we pay expenses) is donated to a charitable organization. Typically it is one of the organizations that helps to maintain the Blue Ridge Parkway.

A couple years ago we stepped things up a bit and arranged for a volunteer activity to be held on Sunday morning. For that activity, we helped remove tree tubes from young trees at one of the overlooks (the N&W Railroad Overlook to be exact).

For the 2014 event we would like to once again contribute a little more in the form of some help. We have arranged to partner with Asheville GreenWorks to collect trash and debris along a short stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway and one of the entrance/exits in the Asheville area.

Asheville GreenWorks in a nonprofit affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. It is a volunteer-based environmental organization working to enhance the environment and quality of life for all citizens through a variety of community based projects. Thanks to Asheville GreenWorks and other organizations, Asheville has been designated as a Tree City USA community for 34 years.

For the volunteer event, Asheville GreenWorks will supply participants with bright green vests, gloves and trash bags. They have asked us to provide the number of participants so they will know how many supplies to have ready for us. Together we can make a difference in keeping our environment clean and green so that others can enjoy the Blue Ridge Parkway as much as we do (well, they’ll need a MINI to do that, but you get the idea  ).

If you would like to participate in the event, please visit the thread on the THMMC web site to RSVP.

Thanks!

For this seventh annual running of the BRP we will travel from north to south. Using the registration system, you can let us know whether you will be doing the whole thing or just certain days. You can also place your orders for registration packages and t-shirts. You may notice we are charging a bit more for t-shirts this year. Based on some feedback we received, we are offering some slightly nicer t-shirts.

As we have done the past couple years, we will use groups to help participants experience the BRP Tour in a way that best suits their goals for the journey. The groups are: (more…)
